  Google's on Verizon's Horizon

Just over at The Raw Feed where they've posted about Google's latest beta, voice-based local search. I've been fooling around with it for the last half hour or so, and I've now made the Google's search my de-facto info contact on my cell (Motorola RAZR). Google is making a killer play here: for too long I've hated using Verizon's 411-connect; crappy service, out-of-date numbers, disconnected numbers...the list goes on. Google, again proving the master of information search, is FREE for me to use, and seems to have been providing up-to-date info on every random restaurant I've queried.

The second feature of awesomeness is that Google will FREELY send me an SMS page with extended information on my search, like the address/phone, etc. This is a HUGE miss on Verizon's part: They never send a text followup from my 411 call.

I'm really looking forward to using this in the future. As Google continues to improve the service, it'll be nice to speak to my phone and say: "Palm Springs, Big O Tires" and get a quick, free, ACCURATE reply that I don't need a pen to look at again.

Old and busted: Verizon.

The new hotness: The G0011.
