  Big Sunday Music Roundup

A number of musical gems to share on this fine Sunday. In no particular order..

From composer Alexander Brandon comes "The Shell", a high energy piece inspired by the anime classic "Ghost In The Shell." I've become increasingly enamored with Brandon's blog and his music, and this manic yet sublimely textured cut is one of the reasons.

From BMI's latest podcast comes a screeching homage to electronic noise courtesy of London's Does It Offend You, Yeah?. "We Are Rockstars" is an ear-searing concoction reminiscent of American theater-metal (think Rob Zombie) but then snaps into this melodic throwback to the Pet Shop Boys. I like dichotomy, and this track has it.

Also from August's BMI podcast is a single from Cathead, titled "Alcoholic". Straight up AA rock, but well composed, produced and performed. Cathead reminds me of what The Wallflowers would sound like if a 21-year old Bob Dylan had fronted them instead of the Son Of Dylan.

Last week while surfing around on MagnaTune (keep your eye on this company) I happened across "Mission Creep" by John Jackson. I've been continually impressed by the level of music I've found at MagnaTune, and John's no exception. Basic, simple pop arrangement, melody and cadence make for a pleasing song.

Lastly is a *very* nice cut produced by Kiran Shahani's (formerly Supreme Beings of Leisure) new project, Bitter:Sweet, titled "Dirty Laundry." More is available via the band's MySpace page.
