Who is Joe Nice? An updated interpretation of reggae beats and basslines, combined with elements of electronica and ambient music, has begun a groundswell in clubs. Monikered as "Joe Nice", this DJ brings this new style "dub step" to American nightspots. If you've spent any time listening to RadioIO's Ambient channel, you've no doubt heard *many* tracks that borrow reggae basslines and riffs. What makes dub step standout in club performances, however, is the harder edged beat structures - more hip hop and rock than roots reggae. Examining this growing phenomenon from a distance, and factoring in the growing role of advertisers breaking new acts (Hello, Dell?), I'm betting it's only a few months before we see dub step peddling on behalf of one brand or another.
