  All Roads Lead to "Apache"

A fascinating post today from SoulSides regarding the musical history of "Apache", an oft abused / re-used / remixed song that's now deeply embedded in our collective cultural consciousness. You may not know "Apache" by name, but you know it by sound.

If you've ever seen the Guy Ritche film "Snatch", you've heard The Incredible Bongo Band's rendition. If you've perused the iFilm Viral colleciton lately, you've also seen Tommy Seebach's hilariously dated video of his band covering "Apache" in all it's 70's glory.

I confess my own ignorance of the tune (and i'm a *producer* for god's sake!), thinking for the longest time it was a Dick Dale composition. Alas, I was wrong. According to the history lesson on SoulSides, the song was composed by an Englishman by the name of Jerry Lordan, then sold to Bert Weeden, who performed and recorded the earliest known incarnation of "Apache."

Enough with the history lesson. Get thee to soulsides and listen to the evolution of one of our civilization's more endearing/embarassing artifacts.
